Providing Automated Support for Web Metrics

Key Points

Presentation Abstract

Automating support for many of the processes in an evaluation project allows minimizing efforts and costs as well as avoiding oversights and imprecisions introduced by the human intervention. Having as a part of the Web evaluation process a quantitative methodology that allows quantifying the quality of Web applications and a toolkit to support it are lines of research and development of our concern. In this article, we analyze about twenty catalogued automated Web metrics, as well as the Website MA (Metric Automation) tool, which provides data collection and calculation to those metrics. In addition, we illustrate the level of support given by this tool to the defined evaluation process underlying the Web Quality Evaluation Methodology (WebQEM). Effective and accurate measurement and evaluation processes require not only methodological but also technological support.

About the Author

Julia Gonzalez Rodriguez Education: Engeneering in Computer Science (UEX). Position: Assistant professor and Researcher. Currently, she continues researching about Web-site quality evaluation and the support tools (Website MA and WEbQEM_Tool). They were running case studies on museums, academic sites, and e-commerce bookstore sites. Besides, he is investigating web metrics validation, and web evaluation process models. Computer Programmer Analyst (UNLPam). Position: Professor and Researcher and GIDIS Coordinator Currently, he continues researching about the quantitative methodology for Web-site quality evaluation and the support tools (Website MA and WEbQEM_Tool). They were running case studies on museums, academic sites, and e-commerce bookstore sites. Besides, he is investigating web metrics validation, and web evaluation process models. On the other hand, he is researching distributed software architectures in order to implement an application for the control and monitoring of Web-centered domotic functionality.
