A Risk Based Testing Process

Key Points

Presentation Abstract

The approach of using risk based testing has become a widespread technique in software testing. By using risk based testing you can focus the testing effort on the critical areas of the system. This presentation describes a process based on experience of how to apply a risk based testing strategy.

The advantage of a risk based approach is to show the people involved in the project where problems and risks in the system might occur in advance. The purpose of testing is to evaluate those identified risks. If no faults are discovered the risks can be lowered. If faults are found the risks can be lowered by conducting more testing in the risk area and to make the designers correct the faults found. The quality of the system can be determined anytime during the project by looking at the current status and priority of the risks in your risk list.
