Test Plan 101 Using IEEE 829

Key Points

Presentation Abstract

The test plan is the base of all the future tests for an SW application. It is a kind of contract between the test team, the management and the development team.

This presentation first describes the different types of documents used in the IEEE 829 standard and their relations to one another. Building on this information it details the different steps and aspects of the test plan as described in the standard and the relations between the different chapters, how they complement each other in order to provide a complete solution. From there it shows how to use the plan for different types of tests such as functional / regression testing, performance testing and configuration tests. The presentation ends with the application of sub-plans to cover the different aspects of testing for a complex application.

This presentation is based on real life experience and implementation of test plans developed using this and different methods and their comparison.
