QWE2002 Paper VT3

Mr. Kris Dugardyn
(Rational Software)

Develop High Quality e-business Applications - Test Smarter, Finish Faster

Presentation Abstract

The Software Development Paradox describes the contradiction between delivering software on time, on budget and software that meets the expected quality. Delivering software on time allows your company a competitive advantage, but if this impacts the quality, the advantage of delivering on time will be lost.

How can we overcome this paradox? Iterative development is a solution, but only changing the way of developing software is not enough, it involves changing your current processes including your approach to testing software. Many obstacles and frustrations can impede testing productivity and potentially derail a project’s success. Common problems include the ubiquitous issue of developers not being able to reproduce bugs; unintentional failure to test important business requirements; and testers working in frustrating, isolated environment where changes are difficult to assimilate and frequent rework is needed.

Find out how you can remove the impediments to successful testing and help testers focus on what really matters; assuring the quality if the software being developed.
